Library / Media Center

Welcome to the KMS Library Media Center!

The KMS Library Media Center is truly the heart of Karns Middle School, a vibrant hub for learning, exploration, and community. Dr. Horner is here to help every student find exactly what they're looking for, whether it's the perfect book for a research project or just a great story to get lost in. Our collection is filled with a wide variety of books and resources, all chosen with our students in mind.

Our library is open to students Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM. To ensure a great experience for everyone, an e-hall pass is required for individual visits during class time.

Morning Open Library: Your Time to Explore

From 8:00–8:25 AM, we have a specific daily schedule for students. You will use a grade-level specific colored library pass during this homeroom time.

  • Mondays: All Grades Library Business

  • Tuesdays: 6th grade Open Library

  • Wednesdays: 7th grade Open Library

  • Thursdays: 8th grade Open Library

  • Fridays: All Grades Library Business

Open Library: These days are a chance to visit Beaver Brew, check out books, relax, socialize, and enjoy puzzles, games, and crafts before the school day begins.

Library Business: These days are for quick visits to take care of any library business like checking in and out books, renewing your checkouts, or paying fines.

Library Procedures

  • Students can check out 2 books at a time for 2 weeks using their student ID. You can renew them up to two times if you need more time!

  • If a book is lost, stolen, or damaged beyond repair, we do ask that the student who checked it out covers the cost.

  • We simply ask that all students follow our school and library guidelines to keep our space welcoming for everyone.

Beaver Brew: Our Student-Run Coffee Shop

Beaver Brew is our very own student-run coffee shop right here in the library! It's more than just a place to grab a drink—it's a hands-on learning experience where students gain valuable business, management, and customer service skills.

Beaver Brew is open during our Morning Open Library days and for special events. Our regular menu includes coffee, hot chocolate, lemonades, and teas, with exciting seasonal specials available throughout the year. Please note that beverages from Beaver Brew are only allowed in the designated coffee shop area of the library.
