KMS Announcements
Yearbook Orders - UPDATE
We will begin taking yearbook orders at school on November 18, 2009. Orders will be collected at the concession stand from 8:00-8:30.
We can only accept CHECKS, MONEY ORDERS, or CASHIERS CHECKS, absolutely NO CASH will be accepted!
Please make checks payable to "Karns Middle School".
In-school Orders will be taken on the following days:

Friday, Nov. 20
Monday, Nov. 23
Wednesday, Dec. 2
Friday, Dec. 4
Tuesday, Dec. 8
Thursday, Dec. 10

Summer Opportunities
Summer/Spring Opportunities for Gifted Youth – Vanderbilt programs for the young seeks to identify and aid academically gifted youth from diverse educational, racial and economic backgrounds by providing academic challenges and enrichment opportunities for this special population and those who work with them. They accept standardized achievement tests for acceptance. The SAVY programs use the TCAP for eligibility and the WAVU and VSA programs use the ACT or SAT scores. Each of the programs has a fee to participate.
SAVY – Saturday Academy at Vanderbilt for the Young
Weekend courses meet for six Saturdays in a row in the fall and spring semesters. The Spring 2010 course will be Creative Writing or What are the Odds? (The latter is a program where students play and analyze games using mathematical equations to determine the fairness of the game.)
SAVY – Summer Academy at Vanderbilt for the Young
Weekday courses meet five days in a row, for one or two weeks, in the summer. For more information, please call Susan Nalls in the School Counseling office at 539-7732 ext. 352 or request information at pty.vanderbilt.edu
WAVU – Weekend Academy at Vanderbilt University
Intended for students in grades 7-10, these fast-paced, residential programs last one weekend and are taught by Vanderbilt faculty. For more information, please call Susan Nalls in the School Counseling office at 539-7732 ext. 352 or request information at pty.vanderbilt.edu
VSA – Vanderbilt Summer Academy
Intended for students entering grades 8-12, this residential program is for gifted students with exceptional ACT or SAT scores. This residential program offers a full catalog of topics taught by Vanderbilt faculty and a roster of social and cultural activities. The annual Karns Middle School Career Fair for 8th grade students will be held on December 1st, from 8:30-11:45 a.m. If you are interested in sharing your career or occupation with our 8th grade students on this day, we would love to have you!
